It was a sweet family moment, until it wasn’t.
Sister Wives fans saw Aurora Brown, Kody and Robyn Brown’s 22-year-old daughter, tell her parents she’s officially in a relationship.
“You know the guy that I’ve been dating for a while?” Aurora began. “He asked me to be his girlfriend, and I said yes.”
Robyn looked delighted. “So, he like, asked you, it was an official ask?”
Aurora smiled. “He said, ‘Aurora, will you be my girlfriend?’”
Kody jumped in with one of his signature awkward dad moments: “Did he say, ‘Do you want to go steady?’ or ‘Do you want to be my girlfriend?’”

Robyn explained that this was Aurora’s first serious relationship. “She’s dated a little in the past, but this is her first real relationship,” she said.
Then, Kody decided to make things more uncomfortable. “Does he give you that look… never mind,” he said before continuing anyway. “Does he look at you like you’ve seen me look at your mother?”
Aurora hesitated but smiled. “I think so.”
Fans watching at home cringed, but Kody didn’t stop there. “Does he look at you with adoration?” he asked.
Aurora laughed and shared, “On one of our first dates, he was staring at me so intensely, I thought he was going to propose! It was just that look.”
Robyn quickly tried to bring the focus back. “I just want to make sure you take enough time to really get to know each other,” she said.
Aurora agreed, explaining, “We’ve both been praying about it, if this is what God wants for both of us.”
Sister Wives: “He Didn’t Ask Me First”
After the heartfelt chat, Kody congratulated his daughter. “Well, that’s exciting. Congratulations, you got a boyfriend!” he said before hugging her.
But then came another classic Kody moment. “He didn’t ask me first,” he joked.
Robyn laughed awkwardly. “It’s a little different,” she said.
Kody added, “Can I be your daughter’s boyfriend?” which earned an immediate “No” from Aurora.
Robyn later explained, “In our culture, a guy would ask permission to date a daughter. But her boyfriend isn’t familiar with that. Aurora’s not interested in plural marriage, and that’s okay.”
Kody ended the moment with a half-serious warning: “We’re probably going to be pretty discriminating because I know what can happen if it goes wrong.”

The scene drew plenty of comments online, and not everyone found it heartwarming.
“She seems like such a sweet girl,” one fan wrote. “Hopefully everything turns out well for her.”

One commenter said what many were thinking: “Girl, your father looked at other women too, so don’t go by what he’s saying.”
Some praised Aurora’s maturity, with one saying, “Good for her. Sounds like she’s courting, not dating.” Another added, “He seems like a good person, I hope the best for Aurora.”
