Time has passed, but the pain has not.
Sister Wives star Meri Brown, 55, admits she still struggles with parts of her past marriage to Kody Brown.
In a preview of the upcoming episode airing January 25, Meri reveals that one issue still cuts deep. How Janelle Brown entered the family.
And the details are more uncomfortable than fans may remember.
“They Planned To Get Married On My Birthday”
During the One on One special with host Sukanya Krishnan, Meri does not hold back.
She says Kody and Janelle once planned to get married on her birthday.
“They had planned to get married on my birthday,” Meri says.
According to Meri, they brushed it off at the time.
“It doesn’t matter, we’ll just celebrate it a different day,” she recalls them saying.
That did not sit well with her. At all.
“Like, excuse me? It does matter,” Meri snaps.
She says Kody’s mom eventually shut the plan down. But the damage stuck.
The Brother Connection That Never Went Away
The birthday issue was not the only trigger.
Meri reminds viewers of a fact that still shocks fans. Janelle was once married to her brother.
Before becoming sister wives, Janelle was married to Meri’s older brother, Adam Barber.
“And they forget that there might have been some emotions involved,” Meri says, “with the fact that she used to be married to my brother.”
That history never fully left Meri’s mind.
“There’s a lot of emotion,” she adds. “There is a lot of emotion.”
Coffee Talk Brings The Past Back Up
This season, Meri and Janelle had coffee together. They talked about their complicated past.
Janelle explained she met Adam while still in high school. They married quickly. The marriage ended not long after Meri married Kody in 1990.
“She’d been married to my brother,” Meri said on the episode. “She was actually at my wedding with him.”
Janelle brushed it off as something that “didn’t really matter.”
Meri disagreed.
“It was a tough thing to wrap my head around,” Meri admitted. “On multiple levels.”
Watching it back, it is clear that moment never healed.
