Jenny Slatten was not done talking about the loans. On the latest episode of 90 Day: The Last Resort, she brought the subject back up once she and Sumit Singh returned to their room after a camping exercise, and the conversation spiraled somewhere neither of them expected.
“But last night I found out that you’ve been taking loans. That’s something that being married, you’re supposed to talk to me about first,” Jenny told him. “Marriage is decision-making together.”
Sumit’s response was not an apology. It was a question. He asked her what marriage actually meant to her.

Jenny answered plainly: two people working as a team. Sumit’s reply landed like a second betrayal in the same conversation.
“I do not like the concept of marriage,” he told her.
Jenny called the statement nonsensical. Sumit tried to clarify his position in a confessional, framing his objection as being about control rather than commitment.
“Of course, I love Jenny, but I also feel that Jenny used marriage in order to put me on a guilt trip or control me,” he said. “I’m not asking for complete freedom. I just want not just tight leash.”
That explanation does not do much to soften the original statement. Telling your wife you dislike the entire institution she is standing inside of, moments after she catches you hiding a five-figure debt from her, reads as deflection no matter how it gets reframed afterward.

The emotional whiplash hit Jenny hard. Just one episode earlier, an abseiling exercise had brought the couple closer together. Now she was facing this.
“I really felt the love after abseiling and now he’s saying, ‘I don’t believe in marriage.’ Maybe I should move back home and forget all this,” she said in a confessional.
She ended the conversation the way most people end conversations that have stopped being productive. She told Sumit she was tired of talking and went to take a shower.

It matters here, as it has with other rocky moments from this season, that this footage was filmed before Jenny’s ALS diagnosis. The Sumit seen questioning the entire concept of marriage in this scene is not the same Sumit currently serving as Jenny’s full-time caregiver and publicly denying rumors about her health.
That gap does not erase what he said here, but it does mean viewers are watching a marriage at one of its lowest points while knowing, in real time, that the same two people are now facing something far more serious together. Whatever “I don’t believe in marriage” meant to Sumit in this moment, life did not give him the option of walking away from the role afterward.

Reaction on X was swift and largely one-sided. One user did not mince words: “Sumit has lied his way onto the show when his gaslighted Jenny and catfished her. And hid his marriage from her. Sumit should be kicked off the show.”
Others focused more narrowly on the contradiction in his statement. “Yes but why get married if you don’t wanna feel tied down. Or want to be telling your wife everything your doing,” one fan asked. Another was blunter still: “What in tarnation does Sumit mean ‘I dont believe in marriage.’ What a stupid thing to say to your wife.”
Several comments zeroed in on the same core issue Jenny raised. “Sumit does the opposite of ‘trust each other and communicate.’ Jenny should not be the last to know about everything but she is,” one viewer wrote, while another pointed directly back to the loans as the clearest example.
The pile-on was consistent: whatever Sumit meant by rejecting the “concept” of marriage, fans heard it as one more example of him deciding things unilaterally and informing Jenny after the fact.
