Two years after Garcelle Beauvais walked away from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Bozoma “Boz” Saint John has a theory about what really pushed her out. Speaking on The Jason Lee Show on July 29, Boz did not point to a single blowup or a cast-wide feud.
“I believe it was fundamentally the breakdown of her friendship with Sutton. I think that’s really what happened,” Boz said.
Garcelle, 54, spent five seasons as a full-time cast member before exiting after season 14, a departure that culminated in her walking off the reunion stage and skipping the cast photo. She publicly cited wanting to focus on her family, including her twin sons’ final year of high school, along with other acting and producing opportunities. Boz’s read adds a layer underneath that explanation.
“I think it hurt her so much. Maybe she was tired,” Boz said. “This is an exhausting place to be because you’re giving everything. You’re telling everything, then people on the internet have opinions about you, and sometimes it’s not true, so you’re fighting on all surfaces.”

Boz expanded on why losing a close cast friendship can hurt more than any outside criticism.
“It does feel like the housewives are their own little sorority,” she said. “So if you’re on the inner circle and then you get betrayed by somebody in the inner circle, that s**t hurts harder, I think, than strangers on the internet.”

Asked about the perception that Erika Jayne is perpetually angry, Boz offered a sympathetic explanation rooted in Erika’s legal history with ex-husband Tom Girardi.
“I think I’d be mad too if I married somebody and they treat me all kind of nice, and when she met him I think she was like, a waitress, and so it’s like a big come-up, and she was with him a long time and was just in the marriage, and then all the sudden now you find out the man is lying and cheating and going to jail, and now you’re dragged in it and being sued by people?” Boz said. “I’d be pissed off too.”
That is a notably generous read from a castmate, framing Erika’s public temper as a reasonable reaction to a genuinely upending situation rather than a personality flaw.
What She Said About Sutton’s Drinking
Boz talked about Sutton Stracke’s relationship with alcohol. He noted that it changed over time, not that it was a constant issue. She said Sutton “used to be a sipper” but has since “cut it out” entirely.
“I think that was part of the whole issue that she had and even with, like, her friendship with Garcelle, I think that’s what happens,” Boz said. “I think it was affecting a lot of things. She lost a lot of friends, like personal, real friends in her life.”
Boz only mentioned the Garcelle connection. Her comments show a pattern she noticed, not a diagnosis. The headline detail here is actually positive: by Boz’s account, Sutton recognized the issue and stopped.
Her Philosophy On Trusting Castmates
Boz also opened up about how she navigates trust while filming with a cast known for turning on each other.
“You just gotta keep your eyes open,” she said. “People will really show you who they are. And to some degree, I trust people to show me exactly who they are and then I trust that.”
