Fashion icon Victoria Beckham opens up in her new Netflix docuseries. She offers fans an emotional glimpse into the darker side of fame. In a surprising moment, the former Spice Girl remembered being weighed on national TV just months after her baby was born.
“I was weighed on national television when Brooklyn was six months old,” Victoria said in the series. “They said, get on those scales. Have you lost the weight? We laugh about it now, but I was really young, and that hurts.”
Her voice trembled as she continued, “I was very critical of myself. I didn’t like what I saw. I’ve been everything from porky posh to skinny posh. It’s been a lot, and that’s hard.”
“I Could Control My Weight”
Victoria revealed how relentless tabloid criticism pushed her into dangerous habits. “I had no control over what was being written about me or the pictures that were being taken,” she explained. “I suppose I wanted to control something. I could control my clothing. I could control my weight. And I was controlling it in an incredibly unhealthy way.”
She admitted that living with an eating disorder made her an expert at hiding it. “When you have an eating disorder, you become very good at lying,” she said quietly. “I was never honest about it with my parents. I never talked about it publicly. It really affects you when you’re being told constantly that you’re not good enough.”
The clip has left fans both emotional and angry at the cruelty she endured during her rise to fame.
Fans React with Support and Sadness
The reaction online has been powerful. One fan wrote, “Poor Victoria, my heart goes out to her. I’m proud of her for being so candid.” Others echoed the same sentiment, saying she was brave for breaking the silence on such a painful topic.
A comment compared her experience to other women in the spotlight. It said, “Look at the nonsense Nelly Furtado has to put up with for re-emerging curvy.” People don’t understand the pressure to appear perfect.”
Several fans pointed out how damaging media standards were in the early 2000s. “We had shows like America’s Next Top Model calling a size 8 girl fat. It was a really dark time,” one user said.
Still, not everyone showed empathy. One comment read, “Hopefully the hundreds of millions of dollars will comfort her,” while another dismissed her struggle with, “Every celebrity has this.”
