After weeks of ICU stays, procedures, and an emergency border crossing, Armando Rubio finally had good news to share. Hannah, his 13-year-old daughter, has been released from the hospital.
“I’m actually very happy, very just thrilled, and just my heart is so full to let you guys know that Hannah has been released from the hospital, which is the best news we could have right now,” Armando said.
Kenny Niedermeier, Armando’s husband, credited Armando’s presence with accelerating her recovery. “Ever since Armando got here, oh my God, she has just gotten better and better and gone leaps and bounds,” he said. “The doctors were so happy with her progress that they said, ‘Now, I think she would do better with you guys in a home setting.’”
Doctors choosing a home setting over continued hospitalization is a genuinely strong signal. Hannah isn’t fully recovered yet, but her care team trusts her family to handle what’s next. This shows real progress after such a serious health scare.
A New Border Deadline Just Landed
The relief comes with an immediate complication. Kenny told TMZ that Armando is still waiting for his visa extension. He must return to Mexico this Sunday. Then, he will meet with US Border Patrol. They will decide on the spot if the extension was approved.
Kenny called the situation “touch and go,” with real “uncertainty” about the outcome.
That is a brutal irony. Armando fought for weeks just to reach his daughter’s bedside, and now getting to stay near her again means voluntarily leaving the country and hoping the door opens back up. Nothing about this family’s immigration situation has been simple, and this next checkpoint is no exception.
What Hannah Is Still Dealing With
Discharge does not mean the mystery is solved. According to Kenny, doctors still do not have a full explanation for Hannah’s brain bleed. She has undergone a series of MRIs and CT scans, with more expected to help clarify what happened.
Hannah is still dealing with partial blindness, weakness, and shaking. She is on preventive anti-seizure meds and medication for brain swelling. Kenny said the weakness in her right arm and hand makes daily tasks difficult, and she is spending much of her time resting and sleeping rather than staying active.
She is not confined to a bed anymore, which Kenny frames as real progress, but “out of the hospital” and “back to normal” are two very different milestones, and this family is still working through the distance between them.
Settling In For A Long Stay
Kenny confirmed Hannah will need to remain in Arizona for over a month. He plans to stay with her, but hasn’t found an apartment yet. He told TMZ that it’s hard to find an affordable place close to her care.
That detail matters beyond logistics. A family already burdened by medical bills and legal costs for their visa fight is now searching for temporary housing in a new city. They are dealing with lost work, adding to their stress. The GoFundMe that has raised over $146,000 for Hannah’s care may end up covering more than just hospital bills before this is over.
How They Got Here
Armando was initially denied entry to the US while trying to reach Hannah, a Customs and Border Protection supervisor telling him humanitarian parole requests had not been granted since 2025. He was eventually approved for an emergency humanitarian visa on July 18, reuniting with his family in Arizona days later.
“We are very thankful for the amazing Customs and Border Patrol officers in Arizona who ultimately approved and signed off on my visa and granted me entry into the United States,” Armando wrote on Instagram at the time.
That gratitude now gets tested again this weekend. The family lives in Mexico, and this entire ordeal began with a trip across the border for testing their local town could not provide. Kenny and Armando met in a support group for gay fathers. They appeared on season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé in 2020. Kenny moved from Florida to Mexico to start a life with Armando and Hannah, Armando’s daughter from his late ex-wife.
Sunday will decide whether that life stays connected across the border, or whether Armando has to fight this same battle all over again.
