Jenny Slatten’s family is trying to bring her back to the U.S. for treatment. The first challenge is getting her husband, Sumit Singh, there with her. Jenny’s daughter Christina shared the update in an Instagram video posted Wednesday, July 22.
“I wanted to let you guys know that we have started the visa process for Sumit to come to the U.S. and to bring my mom so she can come here and get more treatment using her insurance,” Christina said. “Because the doctors have told her she cannot travel alone because it’s such a long flight.”
Jenny revealed her ALS diagnosis earlier this year after experiencing symptoms for more than a year. Since her diagnosis in May, Sumit has become her full-time caregiver and husband. His ability to travel with her is now essential, not optional.
Why They’re Not Going For A Green Card
Christina made a point of clarifying the type of visa the family is pursuing, given how much attention their situation has drawn.
“We have applied for an emergency tourist spousal visa, not for a green card. Only for a tourist visa,” she explained. “It’s a lot longer of a process to try to get a green card, especially right now. They’re not making it easy for anyone. So we’re going the tourist route.”
That distinction matters practically. A tourist visa is a quick way for Sumit to join Jenny for her treatment. It’s not for permanent residency. Given how urgently Jenny needs care, speed is the priority right now, not a long-term immigration status.
The Waiting Game With The Consulate
Christina mentioned she talked to her senator’s office. They said the process might take time, even if Sumit’s application gets approved.
“So we’ve started it and we’re waiting for the Indian consulate to give Sumit his appointment,” she said. “As of right now we’re still waiting on the appointment and there has been no update when that will happen.”
She also said that Jenny’s doctor gave a note. It stated her diagnosis and that she can’t travel alone anymore to return to the United States.
Christina was honest that the outcome is not guaranteed. “We’ve done everything asked,” she said, before asking fans to keep the family in their thoughts as they wait. “Please keep this process in your prayers. Put it out into the universe. Send good juju, there is absolutely no guarantees that he will get approved.”
How Jenny Is Doing Right Now
Christina also gave fans a direct update on her mother’s condition, checking in with her that same morning.
“I was talking to my mom this morning and I asked her: How is she feeling? How is her back?” Christina shared. “She said her back is okay, but her hands feel a lot weaker. She can no longer open up a bottle of water or anything that has a twist cap. She can no longer do that. She said she’s still able to hold her phone and a drink, but as far as opening something, she no longer can do that.”
That is a small, specific detail, and it is exactly the kind of update that shows how ALS progresses in real, daily ways rather than abstract terms. Losing the ability to open a bottle cap might seem small, but it signals a real decline. Jenny’s last update mentioned her main issues: slower speech and fatigue while walking.
The Family Isn’t Slowing Down
Christina confirmed she still plans to travel to India. She said she will likely return to the US with her mom and Sumit once the visa issue is sorted out. She wants to be there in person to help both of them through the process.
