Bethenny Frankel is not pretending things are fine with her ex. The Real Housewives of New York City alum says she and Jason Hoppy are “not exactly” on friendly terms as they continue to co-parent their 16-year-old daughter, Bryn. She shared the update on Benny Blanco’s Friends Keep Secrets podcast on September 29.
“A Strained Year”
Blanco asked if the two still coexist. Frankel answered with a joke first. “We do both exist on this earth, so that’s positive,” she said. Then she got more serious. “It’s been a strained year. It’s been a challenging year,” she told him, according to Yahoo Entertainment.
Frankel described the divorce itself as “traumatic” and compared it to “torture.” She said the legal fight ran about 10 years for a two-year marriage. The divorce was finalized in 2021, nearly a decade after the two split. Those are Frankel’s words about her own experience. A rep for Hoppy was not immediately available for comment, according to Page Six. Frankel was granted primary residential custody of Bryn.
Her Bond With Bryn
Frankel spoke warmly about her daughter. She said she loves Bryn very much. She said they connect when they are watching something together and laughing. She also said they are in a stage between mother and daughter and friends. At times, she added, they are on different paths. “We’re very much like Thelma and Louise,” she said, according to AOL. She also described the relationship as almost like roommates in different chapters of life, with respect for each other’s chapters.
Frankel is now dating investment banker Shane L. Campbell, according to a Page Six report from April. A source told the outlet she is “the happiest she’s ever been.”
