Sister Wives: Meri Brown Explains Why She Stayed With Kody for So Long

Meri Brown did not want to be the one who ended her marriage. On the Sunday, October 25 episode of Sister Wives, she told Christine Brown Woolley why she stayed with Kody Brown long after she believed it would not work. Part of the answer was hope. Part of it was stubbornness.

Sister Wives: Hope, Then Stubbornness

Meri said Kody kept talking about a fresh start. When the family moved from Las Vegas to Flagstaff in 2018, she said, she felt a lot of hope that it might be a new beginning because he spoke about it that way. She described years of uncertainty. He would stay distant, and then raise a toast to a new beginning, she said, as E! Online reported.

Eventually, she said, she became pretty sure it would never work. She believed Kody was waiting for her to speak first so he could be the innocent party. She decided to stay. “I wanted him to say it,” she told Christine, as TV Insider covered the scene. She said she would be the thorn in his side or the knife in his kidney. Those are Meri’s words and her view of events. Kody was not in the episode and has not responded in these reports.

Sister Wives: What Changed

Meri and Kody divorced on paper in 2014 so he could legally marry Robyn Brown and adopt her children. They stayed spiritually married. Things shifted after Christine and Janelle Brown announced they were leaving, in 2021 and 2022. Meri then left the arrangement too.

Sister Wives: A Slow Way to End a Marriage

This is a different picture from the one many viewers have of Meri. She is not shown as someone who clung to a marriage out of fear. She describes a choice to wait for an honest answer. It also explains the tension in the Christine scene: both women stayed in the family for years out of hope, and both have said they were hurt by the same promises. Meri says she wanted the words said out loud. Whether Kody ever said them to her is a question the show does not answer.
