Teen Mom’s Farrah Abraham Can’t Speak for Two Months After Major Jaw Surgery, Manager Says

Teen Mom alum Farrah Abraham is recovering from major jaw surgery. Her manager says she cannot speak and must eat through a straw for weeks.

Abraham, 35, had double-disc jaw surgery after months of pain, her manager, Chrissy Johnston, told the Daily Mail. “Farrah cannot speak because her jaw is wired shut, and her face is extremely swollen. She is in a severe amount of pain and is really struggling, both physically and mentally,” Johnston said.

What the Recovery Looks Like

Abraham will not be able to talk for two months, Johnston said. She must take all of her meals in liquid form through a straw.

The surgery also seems to have affected her hearing. “She has also lost hearing in her right ear,” Johnston said. “I hope and pray that her pain eases soon and that her hearing returns to normal over time.”

Johnston described it as “an incredibly difficult time.” She added that being left in pain and unable to eat normally for months is “an enormous amount for anyone to endure.”

Doctors have not shared details, so how long each symptom lasts remains unclear.

Farrah Speaks Without Speaking

Abraham could not talk, so she used a sign. She appeared on her daughter Sophia’s TikTok livestream after the surgery holding a handwritten note. It read, “I had surgery + can’t talk. Thanks for all the gifts.”

She also posted on Instagram Stories. “I feel like Frankenstein right now,” she wrote. “Praying my face comes back in three months.”

The joke is dark, but it also shows how raw this recovery is. She is keeping in touch with fans in the only ways she can.

@farrahabraham Responding to the jaw surgery in my own words: I feel like Frankenstein 🎃 This is NOT cosmetic. This is NOT a GoFundMe. We must STOP medical billing scams and support our doctors over the criminals who caused this. TIP:Get jaw surgery before Halloween and you’ll fit right in 🎃— Frankenstein & Terminator (stitches + titanium). Thank you to my father and daughter for getting me through ICU: nerves coming back online, eyes moving, hearing returning, making sure I don’t choke. 3 months wired shut is the hardest — metal in your mouth all day, flavored water only, lost 12 LBS. Worse than labor / birth. Skull scans + receipts to prove it. After a non-consensual assault left me with serious jaw damage, I spent years suffering in silence just trying to eat, talk, breathe. I find it odd everyone says sue my doctor when I should sue the animal who did this to me. It’s in the news and I am. This double jaw surgery was planned for months — custom-molded jaws, amazing doctors, PAs, ICU nurses + engineers who built them just for me. Twice before surgery, billing tried to charge me outside my insurance without verifying. “You didn’t meet your deductible” is their line when they didn’t even check. In Texas that’s not how it works — know your rights: SB 1264 (Insurance Code Ch. 1467) protects against surprise billing. I’m sharing my stitches + titanium images because this is bigger than me. Keeping it Fair with Farrah Abraham — so others aren’t taken advantage of. I’m running for District 5 City Council 🗳️ to save YOU money on medical billing. If South Austin elects me, my jaws are back in business in January — ready to work with the Governor to stop billing fraud. To clickbait reporters: survivors deserve truth, not sensationalism. Do better. Thank you to everyone who got me through this. I’m a survivor + advocate 🫶 Dealt with medical billing fraud or surgery shame? Months of Jaw Pain

Abraham had jaw problems for much of the year. In May, she talked about it on the Pillow Talk podcast. The pain had gotten so bad she could barely open her mouth.

“I can’t use my jaw. I can’t open my mouth up normally,” she said. She added with a laugh, “I would like to just open my mouth for a hotdog, okay.”

Her Belief About the Cause

Abraham said on Instagram Stories that she believes the damage may be connected to trauma and stress from an alleged 2021 sexual assault. She said her insurance covered the surgery because “it’s connected to a criminal & civil case.”

She previously accused former Windsor, California, Mayor Dominic Foppoli of drugging and sexually assaulting her in Palm Beach, Florida, in March 2021. Foppoli denied the allegations.

Johnston told the Daily Mail that Abraham “believes the trauma and stress from the assault affected her nervous system and contributed to the damage she has experienced.”
