Brandi Glanville needed a win. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star told Fox News Digital that mounting medical bills pushed her to compete on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. Her run on the show ended after just one day due to a serious injury.
Why She Signed Up Despite Everything
Glanville explained that her health battle left her financially desperate enough to take on work she once would have turned down. “I had the leisure of saying no in the past, but then I had all these medical bills and whatnot,” she said, according to Fox News Digital. She said she needed to prove to herself that she could still perform, both physically and financially.
Glanville detailed just how deep the financial damage has gone. She said she emptied her 401(k) and spent hundreds of thousands on medical bills. This happened even though her insurance kept saying nothing was wrong. She described creditors calling from Cedars-Sinai starting at 8 a.m. most days.
The Injury That Ended Her Run
Glanville’s time on the show lasted roughly 14 hours. During a helicopter jump challenge, she over-rotated and hit the water incorrectly. “My head hit the water. It was like a Mack truck, it ran over my head. I thought that was it,” she recalled. Her body then slammed into the water moments later, an impact she described as nearly paralyzing.
She suffered a concussion, a perforated eardrum, a bruised sternum, and a cracked rib. Her ear injury was serious enough that doctors sent her to the hospital by boat instead of letting her fly. Once there, she was told she might need surgery and could be stuck for two weeks. Glanville pushed to leave sooner anyway, even though doctors weren’t thrilled about her getting on a plane.
Despite the setback, Glanville said she still felt proud of the attempt. She called herself a badass for going in, getting hurt, and leaving on her own terms.
A Risk That Says Something About Where She’s At
Competing in a tough physical show while battling a serious illness is a risky choice, and Glanville knew this from the start. But when your alternative is watching your savings disappear to medical bills that insurance won’t cover, a paycheck starts looking worth the risk. That’s not recklessness, that’s someone doing the math on a bad set of options and picking the one that pays.
