Sister Wives: TLC Just Confirmed the Biggest Cast Shakeup in the Show's History

Sister Wives is entering a whole new era. Kody Brown and his last remaining wife, Robyn Brown, will not appear in the upcoming Season 21, a shift TLC confirmed directly in the show’s new trailer. After 16 years on air, this marks the first time neither of them will be part of a season.

TLC Confirms the Exit in the New Trailer

The two-minute trailer opens with Kody’s exes hinting that something major has changed. “There have been a few changes, recently. Kinda some big ones,” one says, before a title card lays it out plainly: “After 16 years of filming Sister Wives, Kody & Robyn will not be returning to the show.” According to Parade, Christine Brown Woolley responded to the news by saying, “I don’t know what it means. I have no idea.” Neither Kody nor Robyn has publicly addressed the decision.TLC Confirms the Exit in the New Trailer

A New Era Without Kody and Robyn

The Season 21 promotional materials highlight Janelle, Meri, and Christine. The YouTube trailer description mentions that the show is entering a new era. In this season, the three women will forge their own paths and work to heal old wounds. Janelle said in the trailer that she hasn’t talked to Kody since his public apology last season. Also, he has spoken out against her about the sale of their Coyote Pass property. Season 21 premieres October 4.

How the Brown Family Got Here

Kody’s marriages have been unraveling for years. He and Meri legally divorced in 2014 so he could marry Robyn, though they remained spiritually married until January 2023. Christine announced her departure from the marriage in late 2021. Then, in 2022, Janelle confirmed her split. This left Robyn as Kody’s only remaining wife. Robyn entered the family with three children from a previous marriage, whom Kody later adopted, and the two also share two biological children, Solomon and Ariella. Christine remarried David Woolley in 2023. However, the new season’s trailer reveals the couple in marriage counseling. Last season centered on what Kody called an apology tour, in which he tried to make amends with each of his exes.

Fans React to the Shakeup

The Instagram post announcing the news quickly filled up with reactions. According to Entertainment Now, one commenter wrote, “My jaw did actually drop hahaha,” while others expressed excitement rather than disappointment. Several viewers said they are hoping the show finally becomes a straightforward look at Meri, Janelle, and Christine rebuilding their lives without Kody and Robyn in the mix.

  1. Will the name of the show be changed too? I mean, they’re no longer Sister Wives, are they? I have a feeling this new path the show is going down will be a snooze fest.
