90 Day Fiancé alum Jenny Slatten’s ALS has progressed noticeably since the couple’s last public update, and the change is visible in the most basic way possible. In an Instagram video shared August 30, husband Sumit Singh asked Jenny if she had anything she wanted to say to fans.
“No, I can’t talk,” Jenny, 68, answered slowly.
Sumit, 37, explained what’s changed. “Unfortunately, the ALS is progressing and now it’s starting showing more in her talking, like, it’s hard for her to talk now.”
That is a significant shift from late July, when Jenny herself pushed back on false reports that she was bedridden. At the time she told followers, “I’m OK. I talk slow, but I’m able to take care of myself, with help from him.” Roughly a month later, speaking at all has become difficult.
More Than Just Her Speech
Sumit said Jenny’s mobility and balance have also declined, and he described where the weakness is concentrated.
“I feel like it’s more about Jenny losing strength in her backbone and neck and all, her spine,” he explained, adding that it’s making it harder for her “to balance while she’s walking or doing anything.”
He acknowledged how much the trajectory has changed. “Earlier, she was doing good,” Sumit said, noting that Jenny received her diagnosis in December 2025 before going public with it in May. “It is getting weaker.”
The Visa Problem Has Become Urgent
The couple’s plan has been consistent for months: get Sumit a visa, travel to the US together, and begin treatment there. Jenny moved from the U.S. to India after marrying Sumit. They say local doctors and hospitals have less experience with ALS.
“Our plan was to get the visa, and I’ll travel with Jenny and go to America and start the treatment,” Sumit said. “I always keep my hopes high, and I feel that America might have something better for Jenny and she can get at least a better support system.”
That visa still hasn’t been approved. Jenny’s doctors have advised she shouldn’t attempt the long journey alone, which means Sumit’s approval isn’t a convenience. It’s the entire condition for her getting treatment at all.
Sumit put the stakes in the bluntest possible terms. “If I don’t get the visa, it means that we will be apart forever. This is a reason Jenny doesn’t want to go to America without me.”
Jenny has said the same thing from her side, calling India “my home” and refusing to leave without her husband.
An Appeal For Help
Sumit made a direct request to anyone with relevant expertise. “I hope someone will be able to come up with a solution, maybe a lawyer or attorney or someone, a specialist in immigration or something,” he said.
He also expressed frustration at not understanding what more the embassy could need from them. “If our relationship and medical plans are not enough for the embassy in order for me to get a visa, I don’t know whatever situation or condition I will ever be approved.”
The couple pointed specifically to fellow 90 Day alum Armando Rubio’s experience as a reason for hope. Armando hit a wall when trying to reach his 13-year-old daughter in the US during her medical emergency. An immigration attorney helped him get the documents he needed. Jenny and Sumit are hoping for a comparable outcome.
“We’re sharing our appeal, what we’re asking for, and how you can help us during this difficult time,” Sumit wrote in his caption.
Where Things Stand
Jenny and Sumit married on the season 3 finale of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way in 2021. She shared her ALS diagnosis in May. This came after over a year of symptoms. Before that, the couple had to address rumors about a stroke. ALS is a progressive neurological disease that impacts voluntary muscle movement. Right now, there is no cure.
Sumit has served as Jenny’s primary caregiver throughout, and the couple has maintained a GoFundMe to help with medical costs. As Sumit previously put it, “Money will not heal, but it supports and makes life easier.”
For now, a visa decision that has nothing to do with medicine is what stands between Jenny and the treatment she and her husband are trying to reach.
