Faith moved to the center of Catie and Josh’s relationship in a new 90 Day Fiancé clip, and it started with a direct question from Catie’s father: has Josh ever considered converting?
In the exclusive clip from Entertainment Tonight, Josh admitted the question was a hard one. He said he has not really thought about it and has no personal reason to become religious, aside from his bond with Catie.
Catie pressed a little further. “Would you be open to it if we go to the church and they introduce you to it?” she asked.
Josh said he was open to it, then explained where he actually stands. He is agnostic, and the entire point of that position, as he put it, is not knowing.
Catie’s Real Fear Comes Out
The conversation shifted from polite to raw when Catie explained what has actually been worrying her. She revealed she once called her mother in distress over the question of what happens to Josh after death.
“I called you one time because I was stressed, and I was like ok, if Josh doesn’t believe in God, will he go to hell and I’ll be in heaven,” Catie said. “If Josh doesn’t accept Jesus before he dies and goes to hell, if I’m in heaven, how can I be happy in heaven if he’s in hell?”
Whatever anyone thinks about the theology, that fear is clearly genuine. Catie is not using religion as a debating point here. She is describing something that actually keeps her up at night, and it explains why her family treats this as more than a preference.
Her Family Draws A Line
Catie’s relatives were direct about where they stand. Her grandmother did not soften her position at all.
“If he doesn’t have anything to do about it then, you know, it’s not going to work for them,” she said.
The conversation then moved to children, and Catie made her one non-negotiable clear. She does not require Josh to convert, but she does require their future kids to be raised in her faith.
“I don’t need you to convert but I need our children to be raised Lutheran because I don’t want them to go to hell,” she said.
Josh Names What It Feels Like
Josh stayed polite through the whole exchange, but he did not pretend it landed comfortably. By the end, he said the conversation left him feeling like his own beliefs were the thing expected to give way.
“It feels like an ultimatum and it sounds like what you are saying is my way or go away,” he said.
He also pointed out that he has never been vague about his position. “But I’ve been pretty clear that I’m decided agnostic.”
Why Neither Side Is Obviously Wrong Here
This is one of the rare 90 Day conflicts where both people are being honest and there is still no easy landing spot. Catie’s belief system tells her that her partner’s eternal fate is at stake, and asking her to treat that casually is asking her to treat her own faith as unserious. Josh’s agnosticism is not a placeholder or a phase he has been meaning to resolve, and asking him to perform belief he does not hold would be its own kind of dishonesty.
The children question is where it gets genuinely hard, because it is the one piece that cannot be split down the middle. A couple can respect each other’s beliefs indefinitely. They still eventually have to decide what happens on Sunday mornings with a kid in the house.
Josh has already spent this season telling Catie he needs to see real commitment from her before the wedding. Now she is asking for a commitment of her own, on the one subject where compromise is hardest to find.
